Nathália Suellen capturing fairy tales

Talk a little bit about yourself

I am a self-taught dark digital artist and photographer, always fascianted by the strange and dark imagery since my childhood. In the last 2 years I have tried to show my personal visions through photomanipulation, mixed media and photography.

I have been working with people like Random House (publisher), Penguin Group (publisher), Simon & Schuster (publisher), Hilden Design (publisher),  Darla Tea Garden (photographer), VionaArt (photographer), Luciekout (photographer) Souther Plague (Band), Angel Seed (Band), Desdained (Band) and more.

What tools do you use and why?

Photoshop Cs4 and Wacom Tablet Bamboo for digital arts. In photography I started out with a old Olympus D435 and now a Canon T2i

Where do you get your inspiration for your fashion pictorials?

My influences range from fairy tales to gothic style, vitorian era sources, bible, movies like: Lady in the Water, The Ring, The Orphan, Beauty and the Beast, Everything from Tim Burton, Requiem for a Dream, Hannibal, The Legend, The Pianist and everything strange, surreal, dark or even that ones nobody understand the end. Music also inspires me  Isaac Shepard, Nightwish, Draconian, Nox Arcana, ColdPlay, Apocaliptica, Proyecto Onric, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Dark Sanctuary, Hammstein, Any Classic Composers, Opera, Dark Instrumental.

Usually each work done depends on what I’m listening to, the moment I have lived in my life, an experience or even a dream I had.  In my vision life is a kind of frustated fairy tale, several times what you want you can’t obtain, what you dream is far to be true. I try to express what me and people around feel and can’t say.

What websites do you use to promote your brand and why?

Facebook, Myspace, DeviantArt, Twitter, Blog, Flickr etc. It’s important for any artist or photographer to be in contact with their public, to know their opinion, to see other media and improve their skills.

In which online fashion communities are you involved and how this benefits you?

DeviantArt has a huge public looking for arts day after day, from begginers to famous artists and supposed clients you can have in the future. And also I love it because it has a lot of good resources, like stocks and tutorials.

What kind of equipment do you use and what advantages it offers?

I believe that Wacom Tablet it’s essential for painting and drawing. In photomanipulation there are things you need and you don’t find in any stock resource. If you want for example a simple unicorn, the tablet may help you to draw what you have in mind. Because you know, you won’t find a unicorn anywhere.

What kind of software do you use to edit your photos and why?

Photoshop CS4, I guess I don’t need to say much more, the best ever.

What would be some tools that you would love to use but you’re currently not using?

I dream to some Poser or Daz3D softs. Probably in the future I would really like to try more 3D effects. Honestly I’m not a big fan of 3D as long as it looks real. Based on it, start adding 3D elements in my arts would require a great improvisation.

Is there anything else that you use to get your work done?

First, defend your point of view, your idea. Observe around and keep in a constant evolution, see what people have trying and you are not.

Every dark artist have his particular vision, my dark art always end up being emotional and sad, I just can’t run away from this. Some goes being macabre, others try a bit of horror, conceptual, surreal, agressive, urban and so forth. it depends on how dark your soul is. And I’m trying to figure out what I am.

I can be everything from this dark world, as long as it has a sad meaning. I’ve already tried bloody art, girls without head, creepy hands, monsters and I realized they were empty. My art is supposed to help you, to make you think, to speak what you can’t say.
