The process behind a pair of shoes with Reka Vago

Talk a little bit about yourself
I’m the girl who grew up in a shoebox surrounded by the most beautiful stilettos. This is the story. Behind the fairy tale I’m Reka Vago who studied in schools (MOME - Budapest, LCF - London) and in the best shoe manufacturing workshops in Hungary so I became a shoe designer and using these skills I make luxury women shoes for real Cinderellas.
What tools do you use and why?
Well, for designing I still do hand drawings with my favorite tools like the 5B Koh-I-Noor pencil and 0.5 Rotring technical pencil.
For coloring I love using the Stabilo and Tombow ABT pens. I also use Van Gogh Watercolour and pastel for coloring and for making the design boards.
Sometimes I need CAD than I use Photoshop on my MacBook - it’s perfect before making presentations, because this way will already have my designs digitalized.

Where do you get your inspiration for your collections?
I make my own so-called film. It’s like writing the screenplay, having a protagonist, a muse.
I’ll always find inspiration in watching people on the street, traveling and having discussion with designers and expert from other fields. I always have a story behind my collections and this is my “film”.
Then I can turn this into a collection and bring it forward to make the campaign pictures and look book - and finally everything will be related to each other and suggest you the same feeling.
In which online fashion communities are you involved and what are the advantages of being part of it?
I joined Iqons and Fashion Industry. I can use these for networking.
What websites do you use to promote your brand and why?
I have my own website which is the best way to reach my costumers cause everybody search for my name immediately. The other important site is my blog and also Facebook gives an opportunity to people for finding me.
Other website like, ourfashion is also important cause they also sell my things.
What kind of fabrics do you use and why do you like them?
I use leather and try to avoid synthetical glues. If the shoe is made of 100% natural fabrics it will never ever stink.
Other thing is its a living material and it shapes to your feet it’s amazing what you can do with leather.

What fashion design software do you use and why?
None. Nothing yet. The only software I use now is Photoshop, but otherwise I design by hand and make my patterns by hand. I believe in hand work.
What would be some tools that you would love to use but you’re currently not using?
I would try using any 3D shoe designing software, also planning to use You Tube more to show off my works, and web store on my own website. I’m planning to use new materials but it’s a kind of classified information now.
Is there anything else that you use to get your work done?
Yeah, sunshine :) I need the light and the sun. Also dancing is a way of recovering during big works.
