Ada Fu & Miranda Pang - Shoe designers for Cocopunkz

Talk a little bit about yourself
We are art enthusiasts turned shoe painters! Cocopunkz, our hand-painted shoe line came out of an experimental project to paint on any surface we can get our hands on. We like to paint. We also like shoes. So we paint on shoes. Then we coat them. Once we started, we just couldn’t stop. It’s so fun to create wearable art.
What art supplies do you use? Do you use any software to design your shoes?
We mainly use Art Supplies. We Love art supplies stores! Every time we visit OPUS Framing & other Art Supplies stores, we come out with sketchbooks ( our favorite is Moleskine ), COPIC Multiliner 0.1 or 0.5 and good quality brushes such as Winsor & Newton. We use these items to sketch out ideas before we paint them on shoes.
Since everything is hand painted, we rarely use any software for our designs.
In which online fashion communities are you involved and what are the advatages of being part of it?
We’re not really involved in any online fashion communities. We are on communities like: Facebook and Etsy.
What kind of books inspires your work?
As we see things more from an illustration/design perspective, the books we read and which inspires us to draw inspiration are design related. We love books from IdN magazines.

What kind of fabrics do you use?
Artist canvas and natural leather. We don’t have a specific brand that we use.
What are some fashion online shops where do you sell your work?
We sell our shoes online on etsy and our website.
What would be some tools that you would love to use but you’re currently not using?
Recently we’ve been thinking about adding more texture and dimension to our designs so we may try to use resin, clay or experiment with leather carving. These will be created by hand.

Is there anything else that you use to get your work done?
The two of us cannot live without the Internet. It gives us so many great portfolios and look books to explore. We also enjoy artsy shows like Pecha Kucha always manage to motivate us.
